Happy St. Patricks Day Ya’ll

March 14, 2008

With Easter only 1 week away, the Great Corned Beef Hunt is under way. There is nothing like spending St. Pats in the South. I mean that literally. It really is nothing. There will be some lame St. Pats parade (on Saturday of course) and it will be just black people screaming about Obama and the “Hurricane”. Hopefully it will rain. Then try to find a corned beef. It will be advertised, but there will be an empty space where the c. beef is suppose to be when you get to the meat dept. Of course the “meat specialist” will not know what they are and will have to ask the other meat specialist who is helping someone get their St. Pats ham. Then when you check out, the cashier, bagger, and idiot behind you will all stare at it and start a conversation on what that is and how on earth do you cook it. Oh, I guess I’ll just go to the Travel website and look up weird foods and see if Anthony Bourdain has any hints.  The most exciting thing going is we get to wear jeans to work on Monday.  And a green shirt.  That ought to be interesting.  “I didn’t have anything green so i wore this teal sweatshirt with the Miami Dolphins logo on it”.  Or, “Oh is St. Patricks Day today?”   I have managed to round up a few people to stop for a beer on the way home at least.  I got some Bailey’s for my coffee after Palm Sunday.  Erin Go Bragh!!

Win Some, Lose Some

March 8, 2008

Today I sold my bedroom suite. Finally. Simon is VERY confused, every time he lays down for a rest, it is sold under him. Poor Simon. :( Now I have to sleep upstairs in Gina’s room. I’m kinda excited.  It’s like staying in a hotel.  I never slept up there before. It has all the amenities, t.v., cable, BED. It is friggin cold up there since we (I) don’t run the furnace. I just tried to learn to use the strike through key and it didn’t work. I don’t know how to make a degree sign either. But I digress, I think the house looks better with all the furniture out. We (I) have open house again tomorrow. Went to church tonight, so will try to sleep in, since we lose an hour!!! While you dear readers are at church tomorrow, send a prayer up to St. Joseph for me. Simon wants to type now, nd hkmfg,tkj/ih.gdbx hey, smart cat!!! I really don’t know how he did that!! We make a great team. Look out world!! P.S. Simon is jealous of the puter. P.P.S I did listen to Creighton lose on my puter today. WAH! Is that sentence constructed properly?

LIl’ Red-dy

March 7, 2008

Today after Jazzercise, we were all suppose to go out to breakfast. YUM! We were going to go to Family Traditions. Kit, you been there. Home cookin good. When I got to Jazz, Lil Red had a completely flat tire! Argh! I was planning on going to the tire store on Monday to get a rotation and oil change for the trip home. So , I had to drive there with hazards on and talk to a tire specialist. My valve stem was broke. This has happened before. Long story short, 2 new tires, repair the flat (free), new valve stem for 4th tire, and an oil change. I was there until 2:00! A lady did follow me and take me to breakfast tho:) Cheese omelet, hash brown casserole, (kinda like smashed) and whole wheat toast. No meat. Of course they had to get tires I needed from another store, and of course traffic was backed up because it is Friday in Atlanta and raining, and of course when the tires did get there they were the wrong ones. I got an upgrade at the same price. Shoulda given me the upgrade to begin with since the others werent in stock. Road Ready!!  Beer-thirty.  Now if I could only get the Creighton game.:(

Attention Shoppers!! Coming soon to a puter near you, Me!  I hope to be writing again very soon, and within the next few months, I will be adding pictures.  (As soon as I get to Omaha, buy a camera, and have Kit help me.) I also will be working on cleaning this place up!!! There are too many drunken bums laying around and they must be kicked to the curb.  In addition, I seem to have had an epiphany of things I hate and will be compiling my list for all to view and discuss.  So, stay tuned , this is getting good.

A New Year :)

December 29, 2007

If these dudes on ESPN would quit talking about the Patriots and humble pie, I wouldn’t have had to stop my packing to bake a pie.(Isn’t it ironic that I am going to the liquor store to get me packing boxes?) I did however, have 2 big juicy granny smiths and a Pillsbury pie crust. I did happen to have some oranges to fresh squeeze and some spices to use up. I didn’t have any raisins to add though:(. Last night I prepared some pizza topping: ground beef, onions, huge mushrooms, lots of grape tomatoes, and some sauce. I have some Trader Joe pepperoni to use up. And that bag of frozen dough balls for rolls, that were to be for Christmas, will now make a lovely pizza crust. YUM. I have been invited to a New Year’s Eve party given by one of my Jazzercise friends. Their house burned partially down this spring, and it is rebuilt and new and in the fancy part of Woodstock. I have a great outfit to wear, and only myself to worry about.(If ya know what I mean.) I’ve been going to my Al-Anon meetings and they help me alot. It’s nice to have people to call and talk to who have been there. I’m scared and excited, happy and sad, but I think every thing will work out as it should. And just think, soon my blog will have pictures! Until next time, enjoy the bowl games and Happy New Year!

I’ll be home…for July 4th

December 25, 2007

Christmas was terrible.  I knew it would be low-key and I didn’t expect much, but it was pretty terrible.  First off, Jimmy didn’t come home for church Christmas Eve. Big surprise there.  So I went to church by myself like always and when I got home, waited for Jimmy to show.  Loser came home about 30 minutes later and didn’t seem drunk, but after further rumination just wasn’t as drunk as he can be.  We had been invited to go out to dinner with Jack from across the street.  He goes out to Carrabas with his daughter every year and we have gone the last 2 years with them.  He now has a girlfriend and I just didn’t feel like going so we agreed to meet at his house later to play games and hang.  My Christmas gift came in the mail finally.  Jimmy told me to keep an eye out for a package.  It was 4 large and 4 small Sham Wows.  I’m not kidding.  Maybe you’ve seen them on late, late, late nite tv.  What a  shit-head.  So we go across the street and Jimmy is loud and obnoxious and manages to insult the girlfriends daughter to the point where he gets KICKED OUT of the party.  Hello!!! Then about 30 minutes later he drives away down the street.  Well, he doesn’t come home all night which doesn’t surprise me.  I thought he went to his stupid alcoholic brothers, but when he comesw home on Christmas morning at 11:30 he informs me he was at Trent’s the drug dealers.  And now he is going to Steve’s because he can’t believe I stayed at the party and didn’t come home and  he just knew this would all come back around to being HIS fault.  So that’s Christmas.  I didn’t make my panetonne  french toast or my mince pie with egg nogg ice cream, and there’s this huge pan of dressing that I’m sure will go to waste.  So now my next step is to call the realtor  and call the attorney again, something I did in August but thought I would start going to Al-Anon and see what happened.  I now know that if I don’t leave, we will lose this house and I’ll be screwed.  It’s not if, but when Jimmy gets another DUI and then can’t get to his jobs  and I need to get what I can from this house ,even in this terrible market.  This is all so overwhelming I don’t know where to start or what to do.  I need a job and a place to live and I have all this stuff and I hate thinking about it but this sucks down here with him.  So thats how it is and if anybody has any advice that would be great.  It is now 7:15 Christmas night and Jimmy is home. YUCK

Italian White Bean Soup with Spinach and Ham

December 23, 2007

Make this soup on a cold, rainy Sunday.  All measurements and some ingredients are approximate.

3-6 TBSP EVOO(ahem)  1 med. onion, diced, 2 garlic cloves, chopped.  Heat EVOO(ahem) over low heat, add onions and garlic.  Saute till  tender.  Add cubed ham(as much as you want) and cover all ingred. with about 3 TBSP flour.  cook all over low heat stirring frequently to get rid of raw flour taste, about 5 min.  Add 2 cups chicken broth, 1/2 c  cream.  Let thicken some.  Add 2 lg cans Bush’s cannolini beans (white kidney beans), undrained.  Add up to 2 more cups of chicken broth, till your desired thickness.  Add 1/2 box(10 0z.) of drained frozen spinach.  Add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp ea. of tarragon and thyme.  Salt and pepper to taste.  Simmer for awhile if you can wait.  Eat 3 bowls in a row.  Yum-o (ahem)

I wanted to use cubed pancetta instead of ham, but Publix didn’t have it and I didn’t feel like driving to Trader Joe’s.  It was a rainy Sunday.
